Humans

Potential! If there is one race embodying this ability then that would be humanity. While they are not as special as some of the other races that now inhabit earth, they are remarkable in their potential and adaptability. It does not matter which profession or class one considers, virtually all of them have some human members. No matter which location or environment, humans will be there. A race of war and trouble, and even now in the shattered world not a united pillar.

What seems like madness to most other races, who tend to stick to their own race and fight as one front, humans have been cursed and blessed at once. While their race overall has all that potential, this is not always the case for the individuals. Looking at other races particular strengths and weaknesses will stick out, not so with humans.Even before the world ended humans came in all sorts of shapes, intellects, skill levels and colors. Now, with them mixing in with other races and having children with them, that variety increased further.

While this is a great thing for the survival of their race, it can lead to some of them being forgotten. Those born in unlucky places, without skill or connections, or simply with a faltering will. In the past humans had wars between each other and while that is a relict of those times, they still have conflicts with each other, fight and argue frequently and yes, some of them betrayed their fellow men to join those who oppose the Pact.

Concerning what they own and who they are, they have lost many a thing. Those who once ruled their entire world, also a thing of madness to most other races, are now mostly stuck in a single fortress city in the obsidian swamps. Their technology which used to rival magic, has long been forgotten and parts that still exist are considered relics by their own people. Often they do not know their functions or purpose, even if one does not consider how these tools used to work in the first place. When talking about humans one cannot forget their fertility and short life span, while other races have a few children per generation, living hundreds or thousands of years, humans on the other hand have many children and most of them only live to be around 80 years old. Despite that, or possible because of it, humans learn faster than almost any other race, becoming masters of crafts and skills in areas that are contradictory to their own nature.

All of this, and more, has made humans the backbone of the Pact, filling most of their lower and mid tier ranks as well as a few of the pinnacle positions. While humans are not united in faith or skill or viewpoint, overall they are a miracle of spirit and willpower, few other beings could rival.

As the old saying goes “If it can be taught, then a human can learn it. And if it can be done, then a human will do it.”

Faith: Humans have as many beliefs as there are stars

Politics: They elect a leader from a group of chosen heroes every few years. That leader then fills their seat on the Pact Council

History: Humanities true history is long forgotten, but they are a race that frequently creates new stories to be recorded

Technology: Humans have a wild mix of very basic technology and ancient artefacts which have great functions but cannot be repaired (or sometimes used) by them. Since joining the Pact they started advancing at a high pace, climbing towards their former glory.

Magic: Most humans are born with little talent for any type of magic, but as with anything they can learn to use it by being subjected to mana. How powerful a human can become with this can range anywhere from barely being able to use it to immense power rivaling other races.

Habitat: The only official human settlement is the Void city in the obsidian swamps, they could live almost anywhere though.
