Avios
There once was a goddess who valued justice above all and as she saw how corrupted her world had become she created a race of guardians to uphold what she deemed right.
Avios are physically stronger than humans despite looking closer to elves. Beautiful beings with light skin and hair, sharp eyes, and a presence that can be felt from far away. They have the ability to summon wings of light and their fate can be recognized in the color of their wings.
They live far away from the other races, for they are born with a burden unlike any other. Avios can feel the suffering of the innocent as physical pain and are forced to act upon this, as ignoring it will lead to their death. For that very reason Avios train from a very young age until they reach adulthood, at that time they will travel out into the world to fulfill their duty as guardians of justice.
While it might seem like they are naive at times, the opposite is true. They understand and feel lies and deception, but because of their nature they have to weigh both sides before acting.
To better fulfill their duty in the new and broken world they founded the Pact with the Beorlings and have since started to train other races in their strategies. Since some of the more blessed Avios are exceptional healers they are frequently found in places in which their own suffering is the greatest, close to battles and missions that would require their skills to lead to success.
A race that has lost the goddess they once knew but have kept their purpose, to protect those who are unable to survive on their own. As their holy songs proclaim “Guardians born for justice, firm and kind, a light in the darkest of times.”
Physiology
Avios have bright shiny skin and most of them have longer hair of light colors. Their build is lean and tall with defined muscles. They sometimes have feathers on their skin, most commonly around the ears and they can summon wings which are colored in a certain way depending on their fate and personality. The rarest of colors is a dark red, as Avios legends tell a sign of a fate that might decide the destiny of all.
Society
Avios live mostly hidden away in the mountains or forests of the world. They tend to build small villages and stick to themselves as a world filled with that much violence and pain is hard to endure for a species with true empathic abilities. They see all other races as equals and they don't hold grudges or anger against anyone. This point of neutrality lead to them creating the pact with the Beorlings, wanting everyone to be able to live in safety and peace. Because of their old world and their usual living space, they are good hunters and know how to survive in nature.
Politics
Avios decide on a leader out of respect, because of this the elder of a settlement will usually be the leader. They will follow their leader until their death or until too many of them feel like their leader lost his/her path.
History
The history of Avios is unknown but a legend exists. The legend says that the goddess of Justice created them and gave them a flying city to watch over their world, but when they failed they were banished to find a way and redeem their mistakes. When they were cast out they received a curse which is the source of their often lethal empathy, an atonement for tempting fate.
Science
Avios don't have advanced science on their own, because they are quick learners they know how to use most technology of the other Pact races. Other than that they try to live a life close to nature.
Magic
Besides their natural ability to summon wings some of them are blessed. These blessed ones are able to use holy magic to tend to wounds and protect others.
Buildings
Avios use Wood and Stone to create simple huts or houses to live in, since they created the Pact they started using the Fortresses they build with other species for the greater good. They normally don't like living in those places, it is difficult to find an off-duty Avios in one of those places.
Craftsmanship and Trade
Avios are masters at shaping, learning from other races they further improved their magic-infused creations, and because of that most Avios forged Weapons and Armors are incomparable to things other races create. A lot of the weaponry the Pact uses was made by Avios.
Religion
The Avios pray to the goddess of justice, they follow their sense of what's right, even when that means breaking laws or jaws for that matter. They do this to redeem their race from past failures and once again become the favored of their goddess.
Habitat
Avios live in the red mountains or obsidian forest, a few of them travel the lands for the Pact.
